I’m working next Thursday. Normally this would not be a problem except that I have an early flight from Boston Friday morning. I get off work at 5:30pm Thursday evening. The last bus to Boston leaves Lebanon at 5:20pm. If I miss the bus, then I will have to take the 5:20am—now there’s motivation to get up early—down to the city. Greyhound also stops in town, but I have no idea how to get tickets. The website has been very unhelpful. Calling them in the morning.

The other place of employment. By the time this entry posts, I will be setting up the outside display.
This store has been here for over seven years, and I haven’t noticed it until this summer. You look at the world differently when you are looking for “Help Wanted” signs.
- Husband: Please don’t take this the wrong way. My wife is standing right there. But I have to tell you that you are a very beautiful woman.
- Wife: [smiling] Yes, you are very beautiful.
- Me: [to Husband] Thank you. But now you should tell her that.
- Husband: [to Wife] This lady here [me] is a very beautiful woman.
Hanover changed. Many places age, grow older with time. Hanover, instead, grows newer. Main St still holds its rural, if polished, New England charm, but icons of outside civilisation have begun to appear along the sidewalk. A 24-hour CVS opened at the edge of town. The Dartmouth Bookstore is no longer independent, and now is a Barnes and Noble. Boloco, a small Boston wrap chain, holds a spot on South Main. Most noticeably, a Bank of America now stands where the old Fleet building used to be.
But some things in Hanover never change.
I was five minutes late! I swear! Five frickin’ minutes!
Like vultures, I tell you.
