Yesterday, just as I got home from work, the sky started to fall.
There was no holding back. It poured. Rain—to be utterly cliché—fell in sheets. Thunder rumbled. Lightning flashed. I had to run around the house to close all the windows.
All that lasted for fifteen minutes. Then it was calm, clear, and sunny.
Go New England weather.
After the storm, I opened a window, and hopped back onto my computer. There, I found that though the sun had returned, the Internet connection had not. I was cut off from the online world. This was frustrating because I couldn’t a) check my inbox for expected and important e-mails, b) check my eBay bids, c) check my feeds, d) conduct research from the comfort of my own home (and instead, having to go to Baker) and e) get my night elf priest to level 60.
Since I couldn’t do any of those things (and I really didn’t want to go to Baker), I occupied myself with other things:
- Gave myself a manicure. I used one coat of sheer lavender over one coat of sheer pink. It was gorgeous. But then I went to work and spent five hours painting boxes. I didn’t have any gloves on, so I absolutely destroyed the work I did last night. My boss was very kind, and offered to bring in disposable gloves so that my hands aren’t covered in white paint at the end of the day. I, very gratefully, accepted.
- Watched Saving Face. This is one of the cutest movies I have seen in a very, very long time. It is about a mother going through a divorce and her lesbian daughter coming out, and how their relationship changes after the mother moves in with the daughter. About 90% of the dialogue is in Mandarin (without subtitles). That made me very happy.
- Restarted Intern. I started to read this about a year ago, but got distracted by other things. Like going back to school in the fall.
- Put all the music that I got from Byrnes on my computer. Now I have about ten days of music. This is not including the CDs that I haven’t ripped yet.
- Still went to bed very late despite having work in the morning. I blame this entirely on Byrnes for making me nocturnal again.
Of course, now that I have the Internet back, I have very little interest in being online. After all, I have that nail job to redo.
